PopImpressKA Journal: National American Miss - National American Miss Pageant - NAMiss

National American Miss; a powerful, enriching, and life changing program, designed for today’s girl. The mission of the National American Miss competition is to instill poise, self-confidence, and valuable communication skills in young girls throughout the United States, ages four through twenty. At National American Miss, each pageant contestant is a trailblazer, leading the way for future successes.
In 2003, Steve and Kathleen Mayes had a dream of establishing a pageant system where every girl had the opportunity to express herself and strive for confidence and success. That year, National American Miss was born. Today, the program operates in all 50 states and provides thousands of all american girls with a fun family weekend and the opportunity to share her talents, accomplishments, dreams, and aspirations with the audience and a panel of esteemed judges.
Each Thanksgiving, the National American Miss national pageant occurs in the beautiful, luxurious, and iconic Anaheim, California. Girls of all different ages, backgrounds, races, sizes, religions, and dreams travel to the golden coast with suitcases stacked high, garment bags galore, enough glitter to last a lifetime, their signature National American Miss crown and banner, but, more importantly, plenty of support and love from her home state. She will spend the week under the California sun, all while making appearances, meeting hundreds of like minded individuals, and competing for her dream title, National American Miss. A total of twelve girls will become national ambassadors each year. All twelve will embark on an unforgettable year of service and representation, where community service, modeling/acting opportunities, and the platform to be a national role model awaits. Sounds like every girl’s dream, doesn’t it? But who is given this opportunity of a lifetime to compete at the national level?
Throughout the season, each state holds their own competition, which becomes a weekend of fun and opportunity for the contestant and her family. On August 10th, 2018, girls from all over New York and New Jersey gathered at the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick to embark on a remarkable weekend. They attended numerous rehearsals, workshops, optional contests, and required competition. The required competition consisted of interview, evening gown, personal introduction. Contestants filed into the interview room, standing tall in their business attire, and ready to talk to the judges about herself, her life, her goals, and her dreams. The contestant is given the opportunity to express herself through discussion and prove why she should
be the next representative for National American Miss. In personal introduction, each contestant uses a microphone and a stage to express herself and her aspirations for the future. Evening gown is a favorite among many contestants and families, where the girls sport an evening gown of her choice to display her personal style and self confidence. National American Miss also offers optional contests, which include Top Model, Casual Wear, Spokesmodel, Actress, Talent, and Cover Girl. The program is also unique and admirable in that it rewards the contestants on aspects that will prepare them for the future, like their Best Resume, Community Service, Photogenic, and Academic Achievement awards. The newly crowned state royalty and each girl who places in a contest or receives an award earns a golden ticket to compete at the national competition.
From August 10th through the 13th, Baroness, Artist, and Fashion Designer Baroness Olga Papkovitch Von Siebenburgen, Media Mogul Shefik, Socialite and Blogger Myra Mrowicki, and Philanthropist, Social Influencer, and Radio Personality Alyssa Lego came together, much like the contestants, but on the other side. The fantastic four were honored to join a wide team of esteemed judges for National American Miss New Jersey and New York. They hung out in the wonderful hospitality room, snapped photos on the red carpet, and chatted with Mr. Mayes, but most importantly, they enjoyed watching each girl in her element and celebrating everything that each contestant represented. They learned about her dreams and goals and why she represents who Today’s Girl really is and the fundamental mission of National American Miss.  ~ Written by Alyssa Morgan Lego
