EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW:

1. PopImpressKA Journal: Being born in Italy and now based in New York, when did you move to NY and to what area of New York? How was that transition for you?
Kendra Black: I left my home in Italy when I was 12 to go study ballet and music abroad. I lived 2 years in France, 1 year in Monte-Carlo, and 2 years in Washington DC before moving to NYC in 2012! I still remember the first hot summer nights, and that unmistakable feeling of being home.
+
2. PJ: What does risk mean to you? How do you consider your lifestyle comparing to other people?
KB:To me, risk means going beyond my comfort zone.. something I've always strived to do because the biggest rewards in life start from there! My lifestyle is definitely a bit out of the ordinary, and every single day is different from the previous.
+
3. PJ: What makes your performance special to you?
KB: I've been in the entertainment business all my life. When putting my live shows together, I try to create a unique experience for the audience and merge dance, music and fashion.
+
4. PJ: How do you choose where to perform? What helps you to make the right decisions when working with various people?
KB: Being an independent artist isn't easy...that's why having a solid team is very important! I try to hand-pick the people I work with very carefully, and my consultants help me make the right decisions along the way and help me with bookings as well.
+
5. PJ: What is the most inspiring lesson your parents taught you?
KB: The most valuable and inspiring lesson I've learned from my parents is that life offers endless possibilities and nothing is ever impossible. If there's a will, there's always a way to reach for your dreams.

6. PJ: What is your most precious memory from your childhood?
KB: Singing for my grandmother. She was like a second mother figure for me and always believed in me and my musical abilities.
+
7. PJ: What does fame mean to you? What does success mean to you?
KB: To me, fame and success mean having a strong positive impact on people, and helping make a difference in their world. That's the goal I'm working towards over the course of my music career, and I believe it is the best kind of success that an artist can achieve.
+
8. PJ: How were you able to meet and work with artists like Snoop Dogg, Germany based producer Enrico Tiberi, Australian producer Androse, NY based composer Nicholas Babian, and Grammy winning engineer Mikaelin “Blue” BlueSpruce?
What were the ups and downs of working with them?
KB: I started working with Enrico Tiberi very early in my singing career, when I took part in the cast of a new music based reality show in NYC. Although the show never took off, I made some really good connections, one of which was Enrico. We worked on multiple projects together, such as my first single "Tonight", my single "Dangerless" and my latest album, The Fire.
I worked with Mikaelin BlueSpruce on some tracks from The Fire and it was an absolute pleasure working with him! He is such a talented producer and we're most definitely on the same wavelength when it comes to mixing and being creative with the tracks.
The collaboration with Snoop Dogg started when recording my first album The Edge at Trend Def Studios in Los Angeles. He was my dream feature so I was incredibly thankful for making a track with him so soon in my career. I hope to work on many more.

9. PJ: What arenas or venues would you like to perform at?
KB: I would love to perform at Madison Square Garden one day! As well as Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, and The Colosseum in Las Vegas.

10. PJ: Who are your all time inspirations, whether they are painters, musicians, composers, modern and old time bands?
KB: That's a tough one, I have so many! I would definitely say Amy Winehouse, Oprah Winfrey, and Audrey Hepburn are among my top ones.
+
11. PJ: What are your favorite holidays? Favorite Books? Favorite Movies?
KB: My favorite holidays are Christmas and New Year's Eve. My favorite writer is Wilbur Smith, I've read so many of his books! And my favorite movies are: Vanilla Sky, The Cocaine Godmother, I Origins, and Wild.

12. PJ: What are your three wishes?
KB: Aside from taking my music career to the next level, I think being happy and finding the stillness within is what I wish for the most.. as well as hopefully making a change in how the world deals with natural resources and human rights.
