EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW:

PopImpressKA Journal:

1. What is the most valuable lesson you have learned while growing up?

Tim Elliott: Speak up for what you believe in – it will make a difference in the world.

+

  1. PJ: What inspired you to get involved with special Olympics?

TE: The opportunity to create and produce a global spectacle – a chance for our work to be seen around the world. What became even more powerful as the process developed – was how my agency provided a platform for people within the Special Olympic Community to tell their story, show their work to the world. That was even more special.

  1. PJ: What is so special about being born human?

TE: Exploration. We can explore our world, potentially others, there are few limits.

  1. PJ: What Peace means to you? How do you want to see our society in the future?

TE: Being a born very shortly before my parents production of Peace Child – my young life was immersed in the power this performance had on so many people - cast, communities and the audience – and probably my interpretation of peace. Peace for me is therefore where people live harmoniously together regardless of religion or race, politics and wealth. That these people live harmoniously with nature, to give the people of the future a chance to live and thrive stoo. Society of the future should be one that is not a competition to the top, the most wealthy does not win – goodness wins.

+

  1. PJ: What are the challenges that you have faced while mastering your profession?

TE: Being young! Persuading those older that age is not always a signifier of ability.

+

  1. PJ: How do you see the special Olympics program change towards the future?

TE: The Special Olympics program is already making great strides on a daily basis. I hope and believe that the movement can become as recognized and thought-provoking as the Paralympics. In turn, that the world embraces it’s importance and removes the divide between people of intellectual difficulties and those without.

+

  1. PJ: What would you like to see happening in the future in your career?

TE: Make a positive difference to people and society through my work. Our agency, People, is founded on that belief and Special Olympics was a step forward in this. I hope we can continue to produce work that genuinely has an impact on people. I’ve always wanted to take our approach and implement it in the world’s major events. Take a natural disaster for example, while a terrible thing that no-one wishes upon, they do happen - I think our agencies expertise could help in these situations – provide a differing perspective and support for the people on the ground.

+

  1. PJ: If you would have a choice to work with anyone in the world who would it be?

TE: My mum and dad. They are still the best at what they do, annoyingly.

+

+

  1. PJ: If you had an opportunity to meet anyone in the world Who you would like to meet with? and what three questions would you ask them?

TE: There’s not one person that stands out.

+

+

  1. PJ: What is the most special memory you have in the course of your career?

TE: My first live show outside of theatre – the G8 Summit in Gleneagles, UK. Standing in a room with world leaders and, at the time, leaders of African nations, Bob Geldof, Bono and others – realizing that bringing people together in live events has the power to change lives. That set me on my way to where I am now.

+

  1. PJ: What are your special holidays? time of the year? cuisine? Book? Film? Song?

TE: I have a small villa in Greece, on a tiny island called Meganissi. It’s a special place with an incredibly humble, friendly community where everyone is treated equally. Work permitting, my family aim to spend time there once or twice a year in the summer months.

+

  1. PJ: What are your three wishes? TE: My newly born daughter, Bay, to grow up in a peaceful society. Racism to become extinct. Change Lives.
