EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW:
PJ: Congratulations on all your success thus far as an artist! As an artist that has explored various styles between abstraction and semi-realism, how would you describe your art to the lay person who is discovering your art for the first time?
EG: I would describe my work as abstract. I always have elements of nature and words. And my colors are always a big part of what I do.

PJ: I understand you recently participated in the Art Now Fair in Miami Beach and sold almost all of your work you brought there. What do you think was the most appealing aspect of your art to the buyers?
EG: My work has a new look. But still vey Ethel Gittlin. It is the first time that I have exhibited these new pieces. They are smaller, 24 x 24“, or 30 x 30“, and square for the first time. They have a chrome spraypaint background, which gives them a new silvery look from behind. And then after I use spraypaint and oils, I pour a resin finish with cures to give them a clear shiny finish. They seem to have a bright upbeat look.

PJ: Throughout your career, what would you say is your biggest inspiration for your art?
EG: I am inspired by everything and anything. Whatever moves me in my daily life. It has always included nature. And meaningful words or phrases. And now there are more aspects of our culture. Graffiti-like words, and sometimes words from songs.

PJ: You've explored using oils, oils/photography, spraypaint, resin and recently chrome-sprayed base on wood. What is the reason for these choices? Is there one prefer the most?
EG: I just enjoy incorporating new methods into my work. It makes it more interesting and exciting to me as an artist, and hopefully that translates to my viewers.

PJ: Having displayed your art throughout the US and abroad, including in Japan, Estonia, Qatar and France, where do you find your artwork has resonated the most and why?
EG: Probably in the New York Metropolitan area, as I am known as a New York artist.

PJ: What other exhibits, commissions and/or plans around your art do you have in 2020 and beyond?
EG: I’ll probably be doing a solo show at the Walter Wickiser Gallery and Chelsea, New York City in the spring.
