EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW:

PopImpressKA Journal:1. How did you become the tutor to the stars?
Jose Angel Manaiza: I used to be a D student when it comes to math until  my next door neighbor Teach Brown gave me a book on history of The White House where I was inspired by Benjamin Banneker. It was in my junior year in High School at the age of 14 when I started developing my passion and expertise for mathematics.  My childhood dream was to go UCLA after being inspired by Olympians I saw on TV and sports competition. I play soccer for Club Deportivo Olimpia (The most successful Youth soccer System in Central America)
I have been tutoring for 22 years since I won a math contest in Tegucigalpa -the capital of Honduras. Affluent families started calling me to help their kids.
When I arrived to the U. S, I enrolled in English as second language (ESL) at Los Angeles Southwest College and I started tutoring math under the Mathematics Department with Dr. Ed Hector and the rest is history.
Once I transferred into UCLA, I was tutor for NCAA athletes most whom where also representing America in the Olympics. I influenced the lives of many stars from Russell Westbrook to Kevin Love.

PJ: 2. How did you break into Hollywood?
JAM: While I was tutoring at UCLA, I was hired by parents in the Entertainment Industry in Westwood, Bel Air, and Beverly Hills.
My breakthrough was working for a project as a Spanish translator with the most recognizable Hollywood celebrities including Academy Awards winners, Grammy Winners, and to be a blessing for their children and families with my tutoring.
+
PJ: 3. When did you began teaching children of Hollywood stars and affluent families in LA how to read a book a week?
JAM: After I graduated from a speed reading course at UCLA in the summer of 2008, I incorporated speed reading in combination with memory course into my tutorial program to help my students accelerate their learning in Math/Science and English/Social Studies/Reading Comprehension.  I believe the reading is the key ingredient.
+
PJ: 4. Who is your role model?
JAM: Dr. Edward Hector from Mathematics Department at Los Angeles Southwest College. He was also a UCLA alumni and while I was tutoring under his supervision, I became the best Mathematician I can be.

+
PJ: 5.  What teaching method you use for your students?
JAM: The Socratic method is the foundation of the success of my tutoring/teaching. There are three levels of learning:
1. LEARN
2. DO
3. MASTER
I empower students to first learn, then do it and master the subject matter by teaching to others. That’s mastery!
Within 6 months of tutoring/training, my students achieve an overall average of 3.7 GPA, achieved high honors, read over 1000 words per minute at 100% comprehension rate, become memory experts, and become the best they can be.

Here’s some of the  success stories:
+
A. MATHEMATICS
“I always struggled with math. Since I was a child, my parents urged me to put more concentration and practice into math. They told me that without math, I didn’t have a future. But math didn’t make sense to me, and I was struggling with my math classes at school. I started to think my struggle with math was a wall that blocked my future. I started to think math was pointless. I started to think my future was pointless.
In June 2013, I decided to give myself one more try and scheduled Math tutoring sessions with José Ángel Manaiza, Jr and his “A PLUS TUTOR MATH PROGRAM now known as Malibu Education’ Program.” Immediately, I knew he was different. Other tutors explained me pure theory, and made me practice the same problems again and again. Instead, he listened to my history, and concluded that I was a “kinesthetic learner.” I asked them what that was, and he said that I could only learn math if I apply it to make my life better.
Nobody had ever told me that before! You know what? He was right. Jose showed me how to create a budget, make projections for my business plans, and calculate investment decisions. And like that, math suddenly wasn’t scary to me. In fact, it became fun! Moreover, it made an impact in my life. By December 2013, I became good enough in statistics to improve how I ran my business. Since kindergarten, math was a struggle. In less than 6 months, math went from impossible to empowering. And it is all thanks to Jose and his “MALIBU EDUCATION” program. He was the first math tutor that helped me get math, by getting me.
Today, I am convinced now that it is never too late to learn Math, or to make a difference in your life through math. I am happy tell all my friends and people in my life who had problems with Math to work with Malibu Education in Malibu where they have the qualified Math tutors from UCLA, MIT, Cal Tech and other top universities who can teach you apply The José Ángel Manaiza, Jr., Jr.’s Proven System in making Math easy to learn and simple to apply in anything in life.”-Masiel Munguia, President of La Casa del Hondureño ([The Honduran House]
