Benjamin Rutella always wanted to be an Architect, long as he can remember as a child. Born and raised in Manhattan and up to his teen years lived in Brooklyn, he was inspired by high rise buildings, city living and always wanted to pursued a career in Art and Architecture at a young age. As a child, Benjamin Rutella was always drawing, painting, building models with anything he could find around the house, that at one time he built a mini City on his Mother’s Beautiful Dinning Room table. At first, his mother wanted to yell at him once she had come home from work - but instead started crying with happiness that a young creative mind had accomplished an amazing feat. Pursuing his dreams, he attended New York Institute of Technology in New York City and received a 5 year Bachelor of Architecture Degree, plus completed a two (2) year Special Thesis Study program related to City Planning,. Historic Building Design and received an Accredited Masters Degree. During his Thesis Year‘s, he aided in the New York City Urban Renewal Pro- ject known as the South Street Seaport and worked in conjunction with world renowned Developers such as the Rouse Company. Completing an amazing mixed use 12 block Master Planning of the Fulton Fish Market, Retail Shops, Restaurants, Museums, Theatre and Performing Arts, Artist Studio’s and many more mixed use support amenities. The New York Times and the Daily News wrote may articles related to the Thesis Project and as we all known the South Street Seaport is a great success. During his final years of studies at New York Institute of Technology, Benjamin Rutella was asked by the College Dean Grossi to teach at his College. Soon thereafter, he became an Adjunct Professor with related classes assigned in City Planning-Design, Art of Model Building and aided in running a Rendering Class with his first former professor. Opened his own Practice as a Design-Build Firm in 1982 with an office located in Westbury, NY and completed small local projects which then became large projects through out Nassau County. Began his professional license studies to pursue a Professional Architect’s License and in 1992 was awarded by the State of New York an Architecture License to practice as a Registered Architectand Design Professional.  Benjamin Rutella now has over 30 years of Architecture, Design and Construction experiences with projects completed in Nassau, Suffolk County, Upstate, New York City and as far as Florida. Became a member of the Professional Architects Associate Chapter of Long Island called the American Institute of Architects and after five years as a member became an Executive Board Member for a three (3) year term. From 1990 to 1995, Benjamin Rutella entered many Design Concept Competitions including the Suffolk County Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bald Hill, Farmingville NY, the Apple Store Entry in New York City, Poginpole Kitchen Cabinet Innovation Design and many other local competitions. Benjamin Rutella won first place in many competitions and was Contracted to turn over Design Concepts for construction of projects after winning Design Competition Awards. Benjamin Rutella, Architect was also selected by Nassau County Department of Traffic and Planning to attend Scoping Design meetings to offer ideas and concepts toward City Road Ways, Nassau County Roads, Minor roads and neighbor planning. This afforded him a position to aid in the Northern State Highway widening through the Incorporated Village of Westbury and at which time Benjamin Rutella was instrumental with the Design Concepts for the Planting Buffer areas located in the center split of the highway and on both sides, Wood Slotted Sound Buffer walls with planting of evergreens in front of highway walls. His final design concepts were all implemented in the final Highway Design Planning and expansion construction. With that said, the Inc. Village of Westbury offered Benjamin Rutella a Planning-Urban Design Consulting position with the Village, became a Planning Board Member, Headed the Architectural Review Board, prepared a Design-Planning Study for the Inc. Village of Westbury Urban Renewal Beautification ProgramWas also instrumental with Designing and Planning for the Long Island Railroad and in conjunction with the Inc. Village of Westbury, the Beautification program for the Westbury Railroad Station Renovation, Railroad Track Planting Beautification, Handicapped Ramps, Stairs, walkways, plaza area, bus and tax drop off areas with commuter parking areas were implemented and construction completed. Benjamin Rutella relocated his practice out East to Suffolk County during the 2000 Residential Building Boom. Was instrumental in Designing and Building Mansion Homes in the Gold Coast area’’s, North and South Shore’s of Long Island. Working with many Private Land Developers-Builders Planning and Designing Residential Track Home-Planned Developments such as Woodbury Estates, Evergreen Estates, Mansion at Sagamore Hills, The Manors at Chester Hills located in Huntington and Commercial Shopping Centers in New York State including the Waldbaum‘s Shopping Center in the City of Long Beach. His Professional Architectural Practice is presently located in the City of Long Beach and has been working locally for over 7 years. Presently, is President of a very active Business Networking Group known as Elephant Networking located in Long Beach. Also, for the past three (3) years he is an active member of the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, elected as Treasurer and appointed as part of the Executive Board. Benjamin Rutella’s background, experience and professional motivation is to work with all other Chamber of Commerce Executive Boards, all Chamber Members, Local Merchants to help The City of Long Beach Future growth and work with any private client, land developer or builders to help create there dreams.
