Brana Dane seeks to imbue movement in all her still works. Sensuous colors and lines achieve this goal, with a focus on figures and still life. Typically choosing to work in the medium of acrylic on canvas, she has had successful showings in NYC. Most recently during fashion week, Dane was represented as both a model and artist for the designer Minika Ko. Dane’s no stranger to live painting and has had a fruitful relationship showing past works and painting live with the Tribeca Art Factory, as featured on Pix 11.
This new collaboration with artist and photographer Sandy Ramirez is a departure for Dane. Focusing on abstract expression and playing with the lines of the human form, she will demonstrate live the process of painting both al seco and al fresco on a nude model. First, Dane must cover the subject in plaster, either dry or wet, and then quickly work to achieve the desired results. Very dissimilar to Dane’s prior representational work on canvas, yet there is a sense that these pieces all represent a unique style singular to the artist.
Sandy Ramirez is an artist and photographer. His first photograph was published at the age of 12. Since, his work has been seen in a variety of publications such as Cosmopolitan, Harper, and Vogue. Ramirez has also notably had his work as part of a special photo exhibition at the Louvre. He plays a mean pinball game as well.
On April 4th, Ramirez will take various polaroid pictures of Dane's finished live painting and additionally make Polaroid Transfers live in front of the gallery guests. Thus demonstrating the unique concept and process to its completion.
